Today a middle school student was arrested today after making a hoax threat against the middle school on social media. As soon as they learned of the threat, the middle school contacted the Pasco Sheriff’s Office. They conducted a thorough investigation and determined the threat was a hoax. At no time were our students and staff in any danger.

Even though there was no intent to harm anyone, the student was arrested and charged with making the threat. The charge is a felony.

In addition, during the investigation another student concealed the identity of the student who made the hoax threat. That middle school student has been charged with obstruction.

This case serves as an important reminder that we and the Pasco Sheriff’s Office take all threats seriously. Such threats are not a joke, and they have serious consequences. I want to thank the Pasco Sheriff’s Office for their prompt investigation and for all they do to keep us safe.
