The Florida Legislature has expanded the eligibility for the Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) level of the Bright Futures Scholarship Program to include students who earn the AP Capstone Diploma.
Here’s how it works:
-
Students must successfully complete the AP Capstone program: pass both AP Seminar and AP Research, plus pass at least four (4) additional AP exams.
-
If you complete these, you satisfy the academic-criteria path for the FAS award regardless of SAT/ACT test scores. (You still must meet the other standard Bright Futures eligibility requirements: Florida residency, standard diploma, service/work hours, etc.)
-
Be sure to apply for Bright Futures via the Florida Student Financial Aid application and meet all deadlines.
Action steps for students:
-
Look at the attendance and GPA requirements for the Capstone program.
-
Complete the required application for Seminar by the due date.
-
Talk to your counselor about enrolling in AP Capstone (AP Seminar & Research) and planning your four additional AP exams.
