Florida House Bill 1105 authorizes the use of the Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone designation to meet certain diploma eligibility requirements for the Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) award through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
Bright Futures Eligibility Requirements for the 2026–2027 School Year
Current 11th–12th Grade Students
To qualify for the Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) award through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, students must earn:
- A score of 3 or higher on both AP Seminar and AP Research.
- A score of 3 or higher on four additional AP Exams of their choice.
Current 9th–10th Grade Students
To qualify for the Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) award through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, students must earn:
- A score of 3 or higher on both AP Seminar and AP Research.
- Three scores of 3 or higher in AP courses that satisfy graduation requirements in English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics, science, or social studies.
- One additional AP score of 3 or higher in a course of the student’s choice.
Why It Matters
The AP Capstone Diploma demonstrates advanced college readiness, research, and communication skills while helping students qualify for one of Florida’s most prestigious scholarships.
Important Reminder: Earning the AP Capstone designation does not replace the requirements for earning a standard high school diploma. Students must still complete the required number of community service or paid work hours. Students should consult with their school counselor for additional information about the Bright Futures Scholarship Program and eligibility requirements.
